The purpose of this RFA is to support pilot projects that utilize the CTSC infrastructure to produce preliminary data for competitive NIH grant proposals in clinical and translational research as well as translational science. Translational Science goals must be of high methodological quality and must demonstrate feasible and generalizable solutions to translational science problems.
Competitive projects will include a community partner (e.g., community-based organizations, clinical providers within the community, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), or other lay or professional groups working within the community) that has an acknowledged interest in collaborating with UNM faculty on this research question. We expect some, but not all, applications to be community engaged research (CEnR) that may or may not use a community based participatory approach. Community engaged research is defined as research that espouses a “process of working collaboratively with and through groups of people affiliated by geographic proximity, special interest, or similar situation to address issues affecting the well-being of those people.”

The purpose of this RFA is to support projects that address two or more of the following goals:
1) develop cell-based assays for use in high-throughput screening;
2) to use these cell-based assays for the identification of drugs for clinical repurposing efforts; and,
3) to utilize these previously FDA approved drugs in new clinical trials.
This RFA supports projects that have the goal of identifying drugs for repurposing into clinical trials. Each proposal must identify the screening procedures to identify potential drugs for repurposing, and the clinical trial to be performed to test the efficacy of the identified compounds. Proposals are expected to have well developed scientific plans as well as well conceived clinical trials, even if funding for only numbers 1 and 2 (above) is requested.

The purpose of this RFA is to support innovative, high-risk/high-reward pilot projects to develop biomedical technology and move it towards successful commercialization. These projects are intended to provide the preliminary data, models or prototypes, and/or initial corporate relationships that are typically needed to pursue competitive NIH funding (e.g., through an SBIR/STTR mechanism) or other viable pathway to commercial development.

The Clinical and Translational Science Center (CTSC) of the University of New Mexico (UNM) Health Sciences Center (HSC), in conjunction with Dialysis Clinic, Inc. (DCI), are soliciting applications from all HSC faculty members—senior as well as junior investigators—for pilot projects that will exemplify the CTSC mission of developing clinical and translational science, with an emphasis on kidney disease, hypertension, and/or kidney transplantation, to promote and support the “bench to bedside to community and practice and back” goal of the National Institutes of Health. Dialysis Clinic, Inc. (DCI) is the largest non-profit provider of dialysis care in the United States, serving approximately 14,000 patients across the country through 215 dialysis units. DCI is also the largest non-profit provider of dialysis in New Mexico. A key part of the DCI mission is to provide support to kidney disease, hypertension, and transplant research.

The Superfund Research and Training Center and the Environmental Health Signature Program (EHSP) are offering pilot awards, in conjunction with the UNM Clinical and Translational Science Center (CTSC), in support of their mission to advance clinical and translational investigation into environmental public health needs, is soliciting applications from all HSC faculty members—senior as well as junior investigators—for pilot projects that will exemplify the EHSP mission on regionally relevant environmental public health issues that address the overall health needs of unique Southwestern communities. Priority will be given to those proposals most aligned with the Superfund Research Center’s mission for research on the health effects of metals and metal mixtures, with an emphasis on health disparities in affected tribal communities and the CTSC’s mission of developing clinical and translational science to promote and support “bench to bedside to community and practice and back” scientific inquiries.

The National CTSA Network has identified a list of common and/or emerging problems (“wicked problems”) that require urgent scientific solution. The Clinical and Translational Science Center (CTSC) of the University of New Mexico (UNM) Health Sciences Center (HSC) is soliciting applications from all HSC faculty members—senior as well as junior investigators—for pilot projects that target wicked problems and address challenges related to wicked problems. These pilots should exemplify the CTSC mission of developing novel approaches to translational science and to promote and support the “bench-to-bedside-to-community and practice and back” goal of the National Institutes of Health.
